Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin will also be part of the delegation.

President Donald Trump will not attend. He is scheduled to host a UFC mixed martial arts event at the White House over the weekend.

On the sidelines of the match, Rubio is set to meet with Paraguayan President Santiago Peña. Talks are expected to focus on strategic partnership in regional security, trade and investment, and emerging technologies.

The State Department described the 2026 World Cup as "a landmark moment for the Trump administration", saying the tournament coincides with the United States' 250th anniversary of independence and will demonstrate "American leadership and hospitality before a global audience".

Rubio, who is of Cuban descent and is known for his love of sports, counts American football among his favorites.
