Nawrocki made the remarks as he attended the opening of the 5th Polish-Philippine IT Business Summit in Manila and met with participants of a Polish-Philippine hackathon.

Nawrocki said the two countries share ambitions for dynamic development that creates opportunities for their citizens and helps them respond to challenges posed by a changing global environment.

He expressed hope that the Manila meeting would be an important step towards turning the ambitions of Poles and Filipinos into concrete opportunities for cooperation.

Nawrocki said Poland's economic transformation in the early 1990s was the most successful in Europe, referring to the country's transition from central planning to a market economy more than 35 years ago.

Since joining the European Union in 2004, Poland's GDP has risen from less than half the European average to more than 80 percent, according to Nawrocki.

He said Poland is now one of the 20 largest economies in the world, and credited Polish citizens, entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists and programmers with making this success possible.

Nawrocki said Poland's position in Europe gives its cooperation with the Philippines an additional dimension.

He described Poland as the largest economy in Central and Eastern Europe and one of the key countries in the Three Seas Initiative of European countries between the Black, Baltic and Adriatic Seas.

He said Poland can serve as a gateway to the EU single market for the Philippines and other partners, given its position as an important EU economy.

Bartek Wasilewski, head of Poland's Foreign Trade Office in Manila and one of the event's organisers, described the Philippines as a large market for Polish investors and one currently undergoing economic transformation.

He said the most promising areas for Polish-Philippine cooperation are the digital sector, food industry and offshore wind energy.
