Ukrainian outlets RBK-Ukraine and European Pravda reported on Wednesday evening that Poland had suspended an arms aid package in response to the Lviv Regional Council's decision to declare 2027 the Year of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) and its commander Roman Shukhevych.
Both outlets published the same quote, attributed to one anonymous source. The source reportedly said that deliveries under the package had been halted because of the irresponsible actions of the authorities in Lviv.
Sejmej told PAP on Thursday that reports by Ukrainian media about an alleged halt to Polish military aid to Ukraine were untrue.
He also said that recent decisions by Ukrainian authorities, including Tuesday's decision by the Lviv Regional Council, were negatively affecting Polish-Ukrainian relations.
Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk said on Thursday that he wanted to categorically deny the reports. According to Wirtualna Polska, he said Poland was continuing to help Ukraine and would continue to do so because it was also in Poland's national interest.
The Lviv Regional Council announced on Tuesday that 2027 would be the Year of the UPA, Shukhevych and OUN activist Oleh Olzhych.
The decision was criticised by Polish officials, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
Ukraine's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that the Lviv Regional Council's decision on sensitive historical issues in relations with Poland was counterproductive to efforts to achieve reconciliation.
Iryna Vereshchuk, deputy head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, called on Lviv Regional Council members on Wednesday to refrain from decisions that could harm relations with Poland. She said Russia was the only beneficiary of such tensions.
