The trains are to be delivered by the Stadler Polska company.
Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk, who was present at the signing of the contract on Wednesday, said that Polish rail services “have been depreciated for many years, passenger transport was dubbed unprofitable, and Polish railways were described as backward."
He added: "We are changing this image.”
Adamczyk said PKP Intercity would spend PLN 7 billion on new and upgraded rolling stock by 2023.
PKP Intercity chief Marek Chraniuk said he expected the company to carry some 50 million passengers this year, around 8 percent more than in 2018.
