The 60,000-square-metre facility in the village of Okmiany will ultimately employ over 1,000 staff.

Employees will be helped by modern technology, including robots, which will allow orders to be processed faster, according to Amazon.

The US company started operations in Poland in 2014. It now has seven logistics centres in the country, a research facility in the northern city of Gdańsk and an Amazon Web Services centre in the capital, Warsaw, according to state news agency PAP.

Amazon employs over 16,000 people in Poland, PAP added.
