Poland’s LOT agrees deal to buy German airline Condor

Poland’s national airline LOT has agreed a deal to take over German carrier Condor, the Polish prime minister told reporters on Friday.

He hailed the planned acquisition as “proof of the strength of the Polish economy.”

The state-owned Polish Aviation Group (PGL), the owner of LOT, said in a statement that “Condor will become the centre of PGL’s leisure strategy with a focus on growth in Germany as well as adjacent markets, building one of the leading European leisure airlines.”

Condor is a former subsidiary of failed tour operator Thomas Cook.

Poland's LOT said last month it carried more than 10 million passengers in 2019.
