Piotr Naimski was speaking in Washington on Wednesday after holding talks with US Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette.

Relations with Belarus were among the topics discussed during the talks in the US capital.

Naimski said: "We in Poland are interested… in assisting Belarus with crude oil supplies, if necessary."

He added that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during a recent visit to Belarus that America was ready to supply oil to that country.

Last September, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko reportedly said that his country was looking at options to buy oil from markets other than Russia, and potential deliveries via the Polish Baltic port of Gdańsk had “turned out to be the most profitable option.”

The Belarusian head of state also told newsmen that his country was forced to look for alternative oil supplies after Russia went ahead with a “tax manoeuvre by taxing the extraction of mineral resources,” according to the BelTA news agency.
