The figure was in line with an earlier estimate by the country’s labour minister.

There were around 1,011,700 people without jobs at the end of May, up from 965,800 a month earlier, according to the state-run statistics agency.

Poland’s Labour Minister Marlena Maląg said this month that some 5 million jobs have been saved throughout the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aims to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

By Wednesday, Poland had reported a total of 32,527 coronavirus infections and 1,375 deaths from the COVID-19 respiratory disease.
