The terminal will have a regasification capacity of 8.3 billion cubic metres after the expansion work, which is to be completed by the end of 2023, state news agency PAP reported.
The project will comprise the construction of a third LNG tank, a second unloading bay and other infrastructure.
The Polish government’s pointman on strategic energy infrastructure, Piotr Naimski, said the project was an important part of the country’s strategy to strengthen its energy security.
Naimski said last year that Poland would stop buying Russian gas after its long-term supply contract with Russia’s state-owned producer Gazprom expires in 2022.
The deals inked on Wednesday are between the Polskie LNG company - the operator of the Świnoujście terminal, the authority managing Poland’s Szczecin and Świnoujście seaports, and the TGE Gas Engineering-PORR consortium.
