As the economy emerges from the COVID-19 shutdown, the figure was better than forecast by analysts, who had expected a drop of 2 percent amid the coronavirus pandemic, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
In month-on-month terms, Polish industrial production in July increased by 3.4 percent compared with June, according to the Central Statistical Office.
The latest batch of economic data came after the state-run statistics agency reported on Wednesday that employment in Polish companies dropped by 2.3 percent in July on average in year-on-year terms.
The Polish labour minister has said that some 5 million jobs have been saved around the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aims to shield the economy from the coronavirus.
The Polish economy contracted 8.2 percent in the second quarter of this year, according to a flash estimate released by the Central Statistical Office earlier this month.
