Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in August increased by 4.1 percent compared with the same month last year, the state-run statistics agency reported.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 5,337.65 (EUR 1,200, USD 1,415), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

The Polish labour minister said earlier this year that some 5 million jobs had been saved around the country thanks to measures including a massive relief and stimulus package that aims to shield the economy from the coronavirus.

A total of 76,571 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in Poland since the start of the pandemic, and 2,253 have died from the COVID-19 respiratory disease so far, officials said on Thursday.

Poland’s labour ministry has estimated that the country's unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in August, unchanged from July and June.
