Poland’s infrastructure minister Andrzej Adamczyk and his Lithuanian counterpart Jaroslav Narkevič declared on Thursday that the construction of the Rail Baltica route would be completed in 2026, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.
The two ministers visited railway bridges and viaducts being built on the Lithuanian side of the border as part of the Rail Baltica project.
“I am convinced that Rail Baltica, the first full-fledged railway route connecting our countries, will lend a strong impetus to development as economies recover from the COVID-19 pandemic,” Poland’s Adamczyk said in Vilnius on Thursday.
He added that the project was “extremely important to the development of passenger and freight transport in the northeastern part of Europe.”
Rail Baltica is a planned trans-European railway corridor that would connect Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia in the future, the Polish state news agency reported.
Poland and Lithuania last week signed a strategic partnership declaration after wide-ranging intergovernmental talks in Vilnius.
