The council decided on a string of rate cuts last year amid a coronavirus epidemic which has dented the economy.

Last March, in its first change to interest rates in five years, the Monetary Policy Council lowered the reference rate from 1.5 percent to 1.0 percent.

Poland on Wednesday reported 9,053 new coronavirus infections and 481 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases to 1,404,905 and fatalities to 32,074.
