Poland keeps interest rates intact

The Polish central bank's rate-setting Monetary Policy Council left interest rates unchanged on Wednesday, keeping the reference rate at a historically low 0.1 percent.

The panel last year delivered a string of rate cuts to help the economy weather the coronavirus crisis.

Last March, in its first change to interest rates in five years, the Monetary Policy Council lowered the reference rate from 1.5 percent to 1.0 percent.

Poland on Wednesday reported 14,910 new coronavirus infections and 638 more deaths, bringing its total number of cases during the pandemic to 2,471,617 and fatalities to 55,703.
