The new hydrogen industry is set to assist Poland’s efforts in striving for climate neutrality, in line with European and global trends, officials said.
With that in mind, the government seeks to facilitate the production of clean hydrogen, the Polish climate and environment ministry said in a statement.
The production of emissions-free hydrogen from fossil fuels will be supported wherever it involves the use of carbon capture and storage technology (CCS), the statement added.
Another aim of the plan is to help the Polish economy become more competitive, according to the ministry.
Poland's hydrogen strategy to 2030 includes objectives such as developing modern hydrogen technology in the energy and heating sectors, and making hydrogen an alternative fuel in transport, IAR reported.
Other objectives include supporting the decarbonisation of manufacturing processes; developing a safe and well-performing system for the transmission, distribution and storage of hydrogen; and creating a stable regulatory framework for the sector, the ministry said in its statement.
Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki last month told a business conference that his country was the world's fifth-largest producer of hydrogen.
