Polish retail sales 10.6% up y/y in January: stats office

Retail sales in Poland went up by 10.6 percent in January at constant prices compared with the same month a year earlier, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported on Monday.

Sales of clothing and shoes shot up by 97.7 percent in Poland last month in year-on-year terms, and those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose 19.2 percent, the state-run statistics agency said.

Meanwhile, sales of motor vehicles decreased by 13.5 percent, and those of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics edged down by 0.4 percent, according to the Central Statistical Office.

In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 20 percent higher than in January 2021, the Central Statistical Office said.

In month-on-month terms, retail sales in January were 22.8 percent lower than in Decemberthe statistics office also reported.
