The new production facility, worth PLN 3 billion (EUR 630 million), is expected to create more than 500 jobs, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

The plant will make copper foil, which is used in electric car batteries, officials said.

Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and State Assets Minister Jacek Sasin was among the guests as work officially began on the new factory on Thursday.

Sasin said that Poland was "focusing on technologies that facilitate the use of new sources of energy."

Referring to the construction of the new plant, he told reporters: “This investment project is part of a worldwide trend and will make Poland an important place on the global map of energy transition.”

He added: “I am pleased that we’ll be able to work with South Korea to deliver this magnificent project."

Sasin also said that the new copper foil factory would be built in southeastern Poland "because our government promised the people that the country would develop evenly."

He told reporters: "We pledged to support areas that had been neglected for years … and that’s what is happening."

The new plant is expected to be ready in late 2024, the PAP news agency reported.
