The project aims to decrease European Union countries' dependence on a single natural-gas supplier; open access to new supply sources to Central-Eastern and South-Eastern Europe; facilitate the market between Northern and Southern Europe; and increase the integration and coordination of regional gas markets, according to officials.
At Friday’s launch ceremony in the southeastern Polish village of Strachocina, which featured Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Slovakia’s Eduard Heger, Poland’s head of government said that the new interconnection “is one of the key energy investments in the region, which will strengthen the energy security of Poland and Slovakia.”
