Poland's Jacek Sasin and South Korea's Lee-Chang Yang approved the deal in the South Korean capital Seoul on Monday, public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported.
Sasin, who is also a Polish deputy prime minister, said in a tweet afterwards: “Just met with the South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Mr. Lee Chang-yang. We had a good discussion during which we both agreed that Poland and South Korea have common goals in respect to the development of nuclear energy.”
At the same time, the state-run Polish Energy Group (PGE) and the ZE PAK energy conglomerate signed a letter of intent with South Korea’s state energy company KHNP on developing plans for the construction of a nuclear power plant at Pątnów in south-central Poland, officials said.
The facility would feature South Korea’s advanced APR-1400 nuclear power reactors, reporters were told.
Polish-South Korean agreement on nuclear cooperation
Under the agreement signed by Sasin and Lee-Chang Yang, Poland’s Ministry of State Assets and South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy agreed they would “seek to determine the scope of cooperation and the agenda of the Pątnów project and subsequently to draw up an updated version of the deal,” Polish state news agency PAP reported.
Poland and South Korea also declared they would work closer together on exchanging "necessary information," officials said.

Poland’s Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said that his country is planning to build “six reactors in three nuclear power plants.”
Poland picks US to build its first nuclear power plant
Morawiecki on Friday confirmed that Poland would team up with the United States and American company Westinghouse to build its first nuclear power plant.
Poland has also received offers for the construction of nuclear power plants from France’s EDF and South Korea’s KHNP, the PAP news agency has reported.
Poland's Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa said earlier this month that 2026 was "a realistic date for launching the construction of the first nuclear reactor” in Poland.
