Vereshchuk, who is also Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories, said that Poland was working on legislation to offer insurance against risks to investors "ready to put their money into the reconstruction of Ukraine," Ukrainian state news agency Ukrinform reported.

It quoted Vereshchuk as saying that Poland could become "not only a logistics, but also an economic hub" for Ukraine.

"Everyone perfectly understands that in the center of Europe there is a country with a huge territory and potential," Vereshchuk said, as quoted by Ukrinform.

"Therefore, we appeal to foreign governments to provide insurance guarantees for companies that are ready to work in Ukraine," she added.

"This will stimulate investment in our country," Vereshchuk also said. "It's not about charity, it's about business. This is a very real prospect."

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in October urged the international community to step up financial and military assistance to Ukraine, saying that "anyone who does not support Ukraine has either betrayed the values of our civilisation or has been fooled by Russia."

He made the statement at the International Expert Conference on the Recovery, Reconstruction and Modernisation of Ukraine, an event in Berlin co-hosted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen.

Poland’s minister for European affairs, Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, said at the time that Ukraine’s postwar reconstruction should be led by countries that provide the most assistance to Kyiv.

Monday is day 299 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
