Employment, wages up in Polish firms y/y in December: stats office

Employment in Polish companies rose by 2.2 percent in December on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Friday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in December increased by 10.3 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 7,329,96 (EUR 1,555, USD 1,690), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Poland’s labour ministry this month estimated that the country's unemployment rate inched up by 0.1 percentage point to 5.2 percent in December.

There were around 813,200 people without jobs across the nation at the end of December, down by 82,000 from a year earlier, according to the government.
