Denmark boasted the fastest year-on-year growth in seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the EU in December, at 26.1 percent, followed by Malta in second place, with 17.1 percent, and Poland and Hungary tied in third place, each with 5.8 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.

Among member states for which data were available, Slovakia reported the steepest year-on-year decrease in industrial production in December, at 13.1 percent, while Estonia recorded a 11.5 percent drop, the agency's data showed.

The agency said seasonally-adjusted industrial production in the EU as a whole decreased by 1.7 percent in December in year-on-year terms.

Poland’s statistics office, which uses a different methodology, reported last month that Polish industrial production rose 1 percent in December compared with the same month a year earlier. When adjusted for seasonal factors, the increase was 5.6 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
