Employment, wages up in Polish firms y/y in February: stats office

Employment in Polish companies rose by 0.8 percent in February on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office reported on Monday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in February increased by 13.6 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 7,065.56 (EUR 1,500, USD 1,600), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Poland’s Family and Social Policy Minister Marlena Maląg this month estimated that the country's unemployment rate held steady at 5.5 percent in February, unchanged from January.

There were around 866,100 people without jobs across the nation at the end of February, down by 55,700 from a year earlier, according to the government.
