Polish jobless rate second-lowest in EU, at 2.8% in February: Eurostat

Unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.8 percent in February, unchanged from January and the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation European Union, the bloc’s statistics agency has reported.

The Czech Republic boasted the lowest jobless rate in the bloc in February at 2.4 percent, while Germany trailed Poland in third place, with 2.9 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.

Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 12.8 percent, while Greek unemployment was the second-highest at 11.4 percent, according to the latest available data.

Eurostat reported last week that the EU average for February was 6 percent, down from 6.1 percent in January.

Poland's statistics office (GUS), which uses a different methodology, reported last month that the Polish jobless rate held steady at 5.5 percent in February, unchanged from January.
