The study, entitled The Characteristics of Merger and Acquisition Transactions in Poland, was unveiled earlier this week by KPMG, a consultancy, the state PAP news agency reported on Thursday.
Poland records 340 M&A deals worth EUR 16 bn in 2022
In 2022, mergers and acquisitions in Poland totalled PLN 74.9 billion (EUR 16.2 billion), an increase by a third compared with 2021 and the highest amount in a decade, KPMG said.
More than 340 merger and acquisition deals were struck in Poland last year, according to the study.
Poland also accounted for five out of nine biggest mergers and acquisitions in Central and Eastern Europe, when it comes to the energy and public utility sector, KPMG noted.
The Polish market has shown resilience in the face of macroeconomic challenges such as inflation and rising energy prices, the consultancy added.
In carrying out mergers and acquisitions, strategic investors were mainly motivated by the opportunity to acquire a company’s customers, distribution channels, as well as products and services, according to the report.
Meanwhile, financial investors were mainly motivated by the profit from a planned resale, and the opportunity to consolidate the industry, KPMG said.
High-tech, IT, renewable energy
Poland’s high-tech industry is the most attractive sector for capital investments, according to both strategic and financial investors, the consultancy added.
In the coming months, a significant number of merger and acquisition deals are also expected in Poland’s e-commerce, IT, health protection and renewable energy sectors, according to the KPMG study.
