The European Commission said on Friday it had approved "a EUR 1.2 billion (PLN 5.5 billion) Polish scheme to support energy-intensive companies facing increased energy costs in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine."
The EU executive added that the support would take the form of direct grants.
According to the European Commission's statement, "the purpose of the scheme is to cover additional costs due to exceptional increases in energy prices linked to the current geopolitical crisis."
The measure will be open to energy-intensive companies active in sectors such as mining, quarrying and manufacturing, the statement also said.
Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022, launching the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.
Tuesday is day 594 of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
