During the meeting on Monday, Hetman emphasized the strategic importance of Polish-Ukrainian relations.

"These bilateral talks show the importance Poland attaches to relations with Ukraine," he said. "They are strategic for us."

Addressing recent challenges in the bilateral relationship, including ongoing protests by Polish farmers and carriers at the Ukrainian border, Hetman acknowledged "the emergence of difficult topics" in trade relations.

"Difficult topics have emerged regarding trade issues," Hetman said. "The role of our commission is to discuss difficult issues as well. We believe that only mutual dialogue and openness can lead to a compromise solution of sensitive issues."

Last week, Polish farmers held a major protest in Warsaw, calling for changes to the European Union's Green Deal policy and also demanding stringent inspections and checks of goods crossing the Polish-Ukrainian border, including cargo in transit further into Europe.
