Polish unemployment at 5.4% in February: stats office

Unemployment in Poland held steady at 5.4 percent in February, unchanged from January, the country’s statistics office reported on Monday.

The reading was in line with an earlieestimate by the government.

There were around 845,30people without jobs across the nation at the end of February, compared with 837,170 a month earlier, according to the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) office.

The state-run statistics agency reported earlier this month that employment in Polish companies inched down 0.2 percent in February on average in year-on-year terms.

According to the European Union’s Eurostat statistics agency, which uses a different methodology, unemployment in Poland was a modest 2.9 percent in January, the second-lowest rate in the 27-nation bloc.
