In a swoop, officers seized more than 100 kilograms of marijuana with a total street value of some PLN 5 million (EUR 1.16 million, USD 1.26 million), public broadcaster Polish Radio’s IAR news agency reported on Thursday.

The drugs were hidden in a secret compartment under the floor of a truck that crossed into Poland from Germany, investigators said.

The truck's driver was detained and charged with being part of an organized criminal group and drug trafficking.

He could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted, according to prosecutors.

Poland's Central Bureau of Police Investigation (CBŚP), the Border Guard (SG) service, and investigators from the country’s customs and tax administration joined forces for the crackdown near the German border, according to the cbsp.policja.pl website.

Investigators believe the bust has crippled the activities of an international drug ring that may have smuggled around 500 kg of the drug into Poland from Spain since 2022, Polish state news agency PAP reported.
