Sikorski will be in Sri Lanka until Saturday, representing the EU's foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

The visit underscores the EU’s commitment to closer relations with Sri Lanka, particularly in areas such as economic recovery, democratic governance, climate action and maritime safety.

During his stay, Sikorski met with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, and Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath.

The discussions highlighted the EU’s role as a key development and trade partner for Sri Lanka, which exports EUR 2.7 billion worth of goods to the EU single market annually.

Poland’s top diplomat also took part in an informal dialogue with business and government leaders at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, focused on expanding investment through the EU’s Global Gateway initiative - a strategy aimed at bridging global infrastructure and investment gaps.

At the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute, Sikorski presented Poland’s path to economic transformation through democratic values and inclusive growth.

He also outlined the EU’s Indo-Pacific Strategy and participated in a maritime security forum at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), where he visited an EU- and French-supported maritime safety training centre.

The trip also includes a cultural stop at a local heritage site, reflecting the broad diplomatic and people-to-people focus of the visit.
