The decision comes amid concerns over an influx of low-cost products from large Ukrainian agribusinesses disrupting EU markets. The restored tariffs will cover goods such as grain, honey, eggs and poultry.
According to reports cited by NEXTA, the move was made under pressure from EU member states like Poland and France, where farmenrs have protested that Ukrainian imports are driving down domestic proces.
As Brussels and Kyiv negotiate a new trade agreement, Ukraine is seeking to expand duty-free quotas for key exports. Poland, meanwhile, is calling for a return to pre-war trade arrangements that align with EU rules while safeguarding local producers.
Experts say the change is unlikely to impact consumer prices but may help Polish farmers regain competitiveness, particularly against southern European producers.
