Speaking at the launch of a new ammunition production facility in southeastern Poland, Tusk called the project "a key element of the government’s broader plan to re-Polonize strategic sectors."
"We’re spending big on arms and ammunition, but we are now doing everything we can to shift the balance toward Polish-made products,” Tusk told workers at the Mesko plant in the south-central town of Skarżysko-Kamienna.
Mesko, part of the state-run Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), said the new site will be followed by expanded production capacity for 155 mm artillery shells and tank ammunition.
A parallel project will enable Mesko to develop domestic know-how for the production of various types of ammunition.
Tusk said the latest escalation in the Middle East—where Israel launched air strikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities—underscores the urgency of boosting Poland’s own defense production capabilities.
This flare-up "shows how vital it is to invest thought, money and energy into strengthening our domestic defense industry,” he said.
