Czekaj, a respected economist and long-serving professor, was best known for his roles in shaping Poland’s financial sector during its post-communist transformation. He served as deputy finance minister in 2002 and was a member of the Monetary Policy Council from 2003 to 2010.
Earlier in his career, he sat on the supervisory board of the Warsaw Stock Exchange and held senior posts in regulatory institutions overseeing banking, insurance, and capital markets.

A prolific academic, he authored numerous works on capital markets and the financial transition from a centrally planned economy. His funeral will be held on 25 June at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Kraków.
