New research by Dun & Bradstreet Poland, cited by the daily Rzeczpospolita, shows that around 10 shops a day are closing across the country, especially groceries, clothing stores and furniture outlets.
In the first half of 2025, the total number of retail outlets fell by more than 0.5% compared to the end of 2024, shrinking to about 365,200.
New data show the steepest declines are hitting clothing and footwear shops, drugstores, car parts retailers, second-hand stores, computer outlets and toy shops.
According to Dun & Bradstreet Poland, the number of shops fell in 18 of 28 tracked sectors, while some categories, such as greengrocers, bakeries and liquor stores, saw modest growth.
The report also found that small wholesalers and sole proprietorships are under the most financial strain, with about 41,200 such businesses carrying over half of the retail sector’s total debt of PLN 2.4 billion (EUR 576 million).
