The first vehicles are expected to arrive in Vilnius in the autumn of next year, marking the second phase of the city’s ongoing effort to upgrade its trolleybus fleet. Currently, many of the city’s trolleybuses are over 30 years old and in need of replacement.

According to transport-publiczny.pl, city officials say the new Solaris trolleybuses will enable a complete phase-out of the aging vehicles, while also allowing for the launch of seven new trolleybus lines and increased service frequency on more than 40 existing routes.

Equipped with modern technology, the new vehicles will be capable of travelling up to 20 kilometers without connecting to overhead wires, reducing energy consumption and improving efficiency.

Vilnius’s public transport system consists of around 90 bus lines and 18 trolleybus lines. The city does not have a metro or tram network.
