From the beginning of this week, Polish Post has halted all parcel deliveries to the United States.

In a statement, the national postal operator said the move was forced by restrictions imposed by US authorities and airline carriers, making deliveries temporarily impossible.

The restrictions are linked to new customs duties coming into effect on 29 August. From that date, all parcels containing goods, regardless of their value, will be subject to customs duties.

Letters and registered mail containing only correspondence or documents will still be accepted, as well as EMS shipments with documents.

US President Donald Trump has ended duty-free entry for parcels valued under $800. This change particularly affects international e-commerce companies that send hundreds of millions of packages to US consumers every year.

Polish Post said the suspension applies to parcels, including those with declared value, registered and non-registered letters with declared value, Global Express deliveries, and EMS shipments. Unregistered and registered letters containing only correspondence or documents will not be affected.

Other European postal services follow suit with restrictions

Similar measures are being introduced in other European countries. The Czech Post halted shipments to the US on 22 August. The Slovak Post will suspend them from 25 August, and Austrian Post will follow on 26 August.

Exceptions apply in some cases. The Czech Post will still accept parcels valued under $100, but senders must complete a customs declaration, which may delay delivery. Austrian Post will allow standard parcels under $100 and will continue premium services.
