The return of the Israeli hostages is a moment of pure joy for those families,” von der Leyen said, calling it “a moment of relief for the entire world.”

She emphasized that the EU fully backs the peace plan brokered by the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, describing the upcoming agreement in Sharm el-Sheikh as “a historical milestone.”

Von der Leyen added that the EU “stands ready to contribute to its success with all tools at our disposal,” including support for governance and reforms within the Palestinian Authority.

The EU’s top official also confirmed that Europe will take an active role in the Palestinian Donors Group and provide EU funding specifically for Gaza’s reconstruction, adding that the bloc will play a central role in overseeing the aid.
