Employment, wages up in Polish firms y/y in January: stats office

Employment in Polish companies rose by 2.3 percent in January on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported on Friday.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector in January increased by 9.5 percent compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run statistics agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 6,064.24 (EUR 1,340, USD 1,522), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

Poland’s labour ministry this month estimated that the country's unemployment rate went up by 0.2 percentage points to 5.6 percent in January, from 5.4 percent in December.
