Poland's new ministry of industry to oversee nuclear, coal, oil policy

The newly formed ministry of industry will supervise the Polish government's policies in the field of nuclear energy, coal, as well as oil and gas, according to officials.

The minister of industry, Marzena Czarnecka, outlined the responsibilities of her department on Monday. 

Speaking to reporters in the southern city of Sosnowiec, the minister said she was tasked to oversee the country's "policy in the field of energy sources."

She thanked Prime Minister Donald Tusk for setting up the new department as of March 1, and basing its headquarters in the industrial Silesia region.

Czarnecka said the ministry of industry would supervise "the coal-mining sector," as well as "all the measures making up Poland's nuclear, hydrogen, oil and gas policy." 

The ministry of industry will be headquartered in Silesia's regional capital of Katowice, Polish Radio's polskieradio24.pl website reported.
