Sales of furniture, household appliances and consumer electronics went up by 13.2 percent, and those of food, beverages and tobacco products rose 9.7 percent, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.
Sales of of clothing and shoes grew by 8.4 percent, while those of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics rose 7.5 percent, according to Statistics Poland.
In terms of current prices, retail sales last month were 7.9 percent higher than in April 2024, Statistics Poland said.
In month-on-month terms, retail sales in April were 6.2 percent higher than in March, the statistics office also reported.
Finance Minister Andrzej Domański said domestic retail sales posted "the fastest growth in three years," with increases "visible across nearly all categories."
"The economy is gaining momentum," he declared.
