"Private electricity consumers can sleep easy," Donald Tusk said at the start of a Cabinet meeting.

He declared that the government was working to ensure that prices remain stable next year.

"For now, we’ve extended the freeze on electricity prices by several more months, so there won’t be any unpleasant surprises," Tusk said.

He added that electricity prices for businesses were declining "as energy becomes cheaper."

Industrial energy prices have dropped by 30 percent since the start of this year, according to Tusk.

President Andrzej Duda in December signed a bill to freeze electricity prices for households until the end of September this year.

Under the law, electricity prices for households remain frozen at a maximum of PLN 500 (EUR 120, USD 135) per megawatt-hour (MWh) net, according to the government.
