The minimum hourly wage would also rise to PLN 31.40 (EUR 7.35, USD 8.50) under the proposal, government officials said this week.

The proposed changes were presented last month to the Council for Social Dialogue, which includes representatives of the government, employers and trade unions. However, the group failed to reach a consensus, state news agency PAP reported.

Trade unions have criticised the proposal, arguing the minimum monthly wage should rise to at least PLN 5,015 next year.

Employer groups, meanwhile, have described the government's plan as a compromise, the PAP news agency said.

Poland's minimum monthly wage increased to PLN 4,666 at the start of this year, from PLN 4,300 at the end of 2024.

The current minimum hourly rate is PLN 30.50, up from PLN 28.10 at the end of last year.

The average gross monthly wage in Poland stood at PLN 8,881.84 (EUR 2,090, USD 2,430) in June, the state-run statistics office (GUS) announced last month.
