Donald Tusk explained the move aims to strengthen Poland’s defence capabilities and ensure sovereignty over the production of critical ammunition supplies. The head of the Polish government highlighted that increased cooperation within the defence sector offers growth opportunities for Polish manufacturers.
“We want to bring production to Poland of items we have so far had to import. This is a key aspect of our sovereignty,” the prime minister said.
The politician added that the goal is to have the majority of production based in Poland, with Polish ownership of the licenses and technologies vital for national security.
During the press conference, Tusk also addressed concerns about misuse of funds in projects financed through Poland’s Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO), a government program backed by the EU aimed at economic recovery.
“We will thoroughly investigate every suspicious project funded. Contracts will be cancelled where fraud is proven,” he stressed.
Below is a report from Monday's press conference with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Minister of Defence Cezary Tomczyk.
