Malta and Slovenia tied for the lowest jobless rate in the EU in August, each with 2.9 percent, followed by Poland and the Czech Republic, each with 3.2 percent, according to the Eurostat agency.
Meanwhile, Spain had the highest seasonally-adjusted jobless rate in the EU, at 10.3 percent, and Finnish unemployment was the second-highest at 9.8 percent, according to the latest available data.
Eurostat reported last week that the EU average for August was 5.9 percent, unchanged from July.
Poland's statistics office GUS, which uses a different methodology, reported last month that the Polish jobless rate rose to 5.5 percent in August, from 5.4 percent in July.
