The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, operating as flight LO26, departed from Warsaw Chopin Airport shortly after 5 p.m. local time on October 11 and was scheduled to arrive in New York around 8:20 p.m.

About two hours into the journey, the aircraft diverted to Copenhagen, where medical and technical teams were waiting on the runway.

LOT spokesperson Krzysztof Moczulski said that the diversion was due to a medical emergency on board. He confirmed the fatal incident but did not disclose the passanger's identity or its cause.

According to Onet, the plane did not land in Oslo - though it was closer - because it was still too heavy with fuel to safely approach a smaller airport.
