Founded in 2017 by Piotr Niedźwiedź, Neptune.ai develops tools that help researchers track, monitor, and analyse the training of complex machine learning models.
Its platform provides a metrics dashboard enabling teams to debug, compare, and evaluate multiple training runs, improving understanding of how AI models learn.
The acquisition builds on an existing collaboration between Neptune.ai and OpenAI.
Jakub Pachocki, OpenAI’s Chief Scientist, said the startup had “built a fast, precise system that allows researchers to analyse complex training workflows,” and confirmed that OpenAI plans to integrate Neptune.ai’s tools deeply into its training stack to enhance visibility across model development.
In a statement, Niedźwiedź said the team was “excited to join OpenAI and scale our tools to support AI research at the highest level,” adding that the move would allow closer collaboration on tools for frontier AI research.
Neptune.ai will gradually wind down its external services over the coming months, while continuing to support existing customers through the transition, the company said in an official statement.
