Poland’s finance minister says the country has “more and more arguments” to keep its national currency and delay euro adoption, citing strong economic performance and public support for the złoty.
We dont see a strong reason to abandon our own currency, Domański said.

“Our economy is now doing clearly better than most of those that have the euro,” Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański said in an interview published Sunday by the Financial Times. “We have more and more data, research, and arguments in favor of maintaining the Polish złoty.”

Domański stressed that the main reasons behind the government’s position are economic rather than political. “Public opinion favors the złoty, but the main reasons we’re not working on euro adoption right now are economic,” he said.

Poland, one of the EU’s fastest-growing economies, has seen its currency strengthen against the euro since Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s party won parliamentary elections in 2023. The Financial Times noted that Tusk has shifted his stance on euro adoption over the years, and that most Poles remain opposed to the switch.

“We don’t see a strong reason to abandon our own currency,” Domański said.

The euro is currently used by 21 EU countries. While all EU members are legally obliged to adopt the common currency once convergence criteria are met, Poland has not set a timeline for doing so.
