The championship will be held from Friday to Sunday at the University of Warsaw and will focus on algorithmic programming, a core discipline in computer science.

A total of 159 students from across Europe will take part.

They represent the strongest teams from four European regional qualifiers. While the top two teams from each qualifier have already secured spots at the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) World Finals, eight additional places remain open and will be contested in Warsaw.

Poland will be represented by teams from five universities, including the University of Warsaw, Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the University of Wrocław and the Wrocław University of Science and Technology.

They will compete against teams from more than 50 European universities, including Cambridge, Oxford, Vienna, Aarhus and Zagreb, organisers said.

The University of Warsaw is a programming powerhouse, having won the ICPC World Championship twice and the inaugural European championship.

The ICPC, organised by the ICPC Foundation, is the world’s oldest and largest international programming contest for university students.

Teams of three solve complex real-world problems under time pressure, with the aim of fostering creativity, teamwork and innovation.

The world finals are scheduled to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in November.
