Employment down, wages up in Polish firms y/y in April: stats office

Employment in Polish companies dropped by 0.9 percent in April on average in year-on-year terms, the country’s statistics office has reported.

Meanwhile, average wages in Poland's corporate sector increased by 5.4 percent last month compared with the same month a year earlier, the state-run Statistics Poland (GUS) agency said.

The average gross Polish monthly wage last month was PLN 9,530.74 (EUR 2,250, USD 2,620), according to the statistical office.

The figures are for companies with more than nine employees.

The Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policestimated this month that Poland's unemployment rate fell to 6 percent in April, from 6.1 percent in March.

The average monthly wage in Poland rose 6.7 percent in the first quarter of this year compared with the same quarter of 2025.

The country's minimum monthly wage increased 3 percent at the start of this year to PLN 4,806, from PLN 4,666 in 2025.

Meanwhile, inflation stood at 3.2 percent in year-on-year terms in April, according to a flash estimate released by Statistics Poland at the end of last month.
