Poland has announced support worth PLN 386 million (EUR 90.5 million) for investments by three companies belonging to the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), with planned projects worth nearly PLN 1.3 billion (EUR 304.2 million) aimed at expanding domestic defence production.

Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański announced support decisions for Jelcz, Rosomak and Bumar-Łabędy on Wednesday in Racibórz, southern Poland.

According to Katowice Special Economic Zone President Rafał Żelazny, Jelcz plans to invest PLN 469 million (EUR 109.8 million) in Racibórz, Rosomak PLN 112 million (EUR 26.2 million) there, and Bumar-Łabędy PLN 711 million (EUR 166.6 million) in Gliwice and Pyskowice.

The investment is expected to enable Jelcz to produce around 700 vehicles a year, while the other projects will expand and modernise armoured vehicle production.

The projects in Racibórz will use the former Rafako industrial site. Three of its five large halls are intended for Jelcz, one for Rosomak, and the fifth for integrating batteries for the San counter-drone defence programme.

The Jelcz project is expected to create 200 jobs between 2026 and 2029. Rosomak is to maintain 480 jobs over the same period, while Bumar-Łabędy is to maintain 842 jobs between 2026 and 2030.

Domański said Poland’s economic growth enabled it to spend nearly 5 percent of GDP on its armed forces.

He said investment incentives were needed alongside purchases of advanced military equipment and argued that Silesia should become a key centre for the defence industry.

The Katowice Special Economic Zone issued the support decisions under the Polish Investment Zone scheme, which allows companies to receive corporate income tax exemptions for investments in defence production following a regulation that came into force last year.

Deputy State Assets Minister Konrad Gołota said the investments would support economic growth, create jobs and increase domestic production.
